Protecting your mortgage
Protected
As well as helping you to buy your home, we want to help you to protect and keep it.
That means finding the right insurance cover (mortgage protection) for the situations that could result in it being repossessed. Such polices protect against various risks by paying lump sums that can pay off the mortgage, monthly amounts to help you keep up the mortgage payments or specific amounts for the repair of damage to the building itself.
Policies that pay a lump sum
Enabling the beneficiary to pay off the mortgage.
Life Cover
Pays a lump sum if you die within the term of the policy.
Critical Illness
Pays the lump sum if you're diagnosed with a critical illness or permanent disability. Insurers define these conditions in different ways. We'll explain the differences, so you know precisely what's covered.
Policies that pay an agreed monthly amount
To help you keep up the mortgage payments.
Accident and Sickness
Pays you an agreed monthly amount, for up to two years, if you can't work because of an accident or sickness.
Income protection (PHI)
Takes over paying an agreed monthly amount if you still can't work after the period covered by accident and sickness insurance. Payments continue until you return to work or reach retirement age.
Unemployment
Pays an agreed monthly amount if you are made redundant through no fault of your own.
Other Policies
Policies that pay for the repair of the home and for lost or damaged contents.
Buildings
Pays for the repair of damage to the property caused by events such as fire, flooding and subsidence.
Contents
Pays for the repair or replacement of household possessions damaged or lost through the same three events or from burglary. You can also cover accidental damage (even red wine spilled on the sofa) and belongings outside the home.
If you're unlucky enough to experience one of the above events and you're not insured, you or your dependants could lose your home.
Contact us if you're worried about uninsured risks. We'll review your existing cover, if any, and give you our advice on which gaps to plug to give you and your dependants peace of mind.
